The greatest rappers are just poets with background music,

Allow me a couple verses, and I swear ill prove it.

We may not employ iambic pentameter,

But the topics we touch know no parameters.

We speak no prose but we give life back to souls,

Souls lost then found that come back around.

My words may not assonate, but they resonate.

Send tremors through the hearts of every men.

Poets are remembered as the greatest friends,

Rappers are buried and forgotten then.

Do our pens not leak from the exact same end?

Our rhymes break patterns so we never mattered.

Do I not cross my T’s and dot my I’s?

I saw tears fall down from the exact same eyes,

Shaken by the truths Shakespeare revealed,

The same wounds I heal that he once sealed.

We speak of, lovers dying and kingdoms fallen,

I can hear divine inspiration as it starts its calling.

Declare a rapper insane but a poet sage,

Let the world remember me for a single phrase:

“Be not rappers afraid of thine great desires,

For surely thou’ will lift flames of fire.”

Spoken in the old, could I be remembered?

A rapper turned poet raised up to heaven.

The ranks of those who sung without drums or harps,

The only sounds heard were of the beating heart.

My heart beats louder than those ancient men.

They spoke of, devils tempt and rampart theft,

Tell me has the world much changed since then?

I change the world with this bleeding pen.

Tennyson and Homer and Pushkin too,

Were they not just men like me and you?

Elevated to the status of gods, how blasphemous.

Hamlet was holy, dare thou laugh at it?

Rappers are poets, has thou gone mad?

I will not defend those who we know are bad.

Listing every type of wine that they’ve ever had.

But others should be put on podiums,

Give them the chance to speak.

Listen the same way that they heard the Greeks.

They weave words with magic and tell stories tragic.

Those good at birth transformed to savage.
